Cycling to Freedom - By Bénédicte Lassalle
This journal chronicles the remarkable journey I undertook with my daughter, brother, and niece, retracing the steps of my grandmother's harrowing escape in 1940 from the Nazi-occupied zone of northern France to the free zone. Over the course of 11 days, we traveled 400 miles, immersing ourselves in the landscapes and history that shaped her journey. Each mile we covered evoked reflections on resilience and courage, allowing us to honor her legacy while forging our own stories. Together, we discovered not only the physical paths she took but also the emotional connections that bind our family across generations, culminating in a journey that was as much about remembrance as it was about forging new memories together.
